Nepal

Highs and lows in Nepal

Nepal is one of the world's most exciting travel destinations! Over the course of 16-18 days we visit Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan, which makes the trip a small round trip. From the border with India with jungle to hiking with views of several mountain peaks over 8000m in the Himalayas, you will see contrasts in nature and gain an insight into what the country has to offer. We spend time on cultural meetings, nature experiences and we visit various projects that work to help vulnerable groups in Nepal. The school is through its project to support work for women's rights in Nepal, among others.

Ghorepani trek and jungle safari

We are going on an eight-day hike in the mountains north of Pokhara. Here you can find some of the world's highest mountains and one of the hiking destinations is Annapurna Basecamp at approx. 4100m. Another fantastic viewpoint is Poon Hill 3210m. From here you can see several famous mountains over 8000m such as Annaputna and Dhaulagiri. During the hike you get close to the people and culture along the way. Here it is inaccessible by car and all goods that need to enter these areas are carried in by people or animals along the same paths that we walk on.

After being in the mountains north of Pokhara we head south towards the border with India. More specifically Chitwan National Park with its bustling wildlife. Here you can find crocodiles, tigers, elephants and rhinos. We are going on a jungle safari to see if we can spot any of these amazing creatures.

Solidarity

As mentioned, the school has a project for which we are raising money. The project is called “just as much worth” and is under the umbrella of “kompis” which has a number of different aid projects around the world. “Just as much worth” focuses on working for women’s rights in Bangladesh, India and Nepal. Through the money that is raised, many girls have the opportunity to go to school and receive training in both theoretical and practical subjects. We will visit places where such financial support contributes to a higher quality of life. In Nepal, trafficking of girls to India is a big problem. Higher Ground in Kathmandu is a bakery and craft workshop where girls who have been rescued from this are allowed to learn crafts/baking in order to be able to support themselves later in life. When we visit here we will hear some of their stories and see how they work.

We visit ABBS, a day center that helps children with physical and mental disabilities. Here we get to learn about and encounter a completely different reality than the one we are used to dealing with in the West. During the trip you will come close to another culture and some big questions. You will probably reflect a lot on the impressions you get during the trip, gain more knowledge about and insight into the world we all live in.
