Diving

Diving

Diving

You will get the PADI certificate "Open Water Diver". This qualifies you to dive down to 18 meters with air. The course and diving take place at Strømsholmen/Atlanterhavsveien which is located in spectacular Hustadvika. The area is known for its fantastic diving conditions. You will also learn free diving and underwater hunting.
You can combine diving with one of the other courses. The lessons are added to the entire adventure week and days of electives in the fall.

Ocean

As a student at the Nordvestlandet Folk High School, you will experience that we have a short distance to world-class nature both above and below the sea surface. Within an hour's travel, we reach famous places such as the Atlantic Road and Hustadvika. Here, the conditions are perfect for learning about different ways of diving/freediving. In the fall, when this line is in operation, it is high season for diving and freediving of all kinds. The time of year with the best visibility in the sea is autumn. We will take full advantage of this by learning hunting dives, collecting scallops and seeing beautiful kelp forests with lots of life.

Combi line

The Diving line is a combined line. This means that you choose the diving line in combination with one of the other lines at the school. By choosing diving, you have diving as an experience week and an elective on Tuesdays before Christmas and get a good immersion in activities below the ocean surface. Even if you choose diving, you have other electives on Monday and Wednesday before lunch. Diving ends at Christmas, while you follow the other line all year round. From January you can choose between all available electives for the spring semester.

In the application form, you select another line as your first choice and Diving as your second choice. We understand that you want a combination of these. Everyone who selects Diving as their first choice will be contacted regarding which other line you would like to have in addition.

Check out the other lines to stitch together your dream year!

Study trips

At Nordvestlandet Folk High School you can choose a study trip! In November, the entire school has a travel period where you choose the program you find most interesting. This is a unique opportunity to get to know more of the students at the school and learn more about yourself and the world we live in.

Bali - Lombok
We're packing our bags and traveling to Bali and Lombok! There we will experience jungle, volcano, rafting and surfing. Get to know Indonesian culture better and visit humanitarian work. Every evening we have dinner together and an evening gathering.

Bali

Norway - a round trip
On this trip we visit a number of important historical sites and you will get an insight into Norwegian culture and nature. We will visit, among other things, Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim and Stiklestad National Cultural Center where you will get a good insight into Viking and medieval culture. The trip then continues south to Ålesund. We will also go on a cabin trip and do exciting activities along the way.

Norway

Kenya
In November we are traveling to Kenya. Here we will experience a lot! You will see fantastic wildlife and nature on safari, swim along Mombasa's beautiful beaches, visit many significant places and learn a lot about yourself! Through all this we travel with a local guide who teaches us about the culture and shows us the real Kenya. Local food and local markets, Nairobi and the slums - the guide is with us the whole way and ensures that we get close to the local people and their everyday lives. Before we travel we work on north/south issues.

Kenya

Fjord route
Join us on a fantastic cabin-to-cabin hike in the mountains on the islands between Kristiansund and Surnadal. Right next to the ocean, you will experience magnificent nature, improve your map and compass skills, clothing and hiking food. On this hike, you will learn a lot about and from being in nature.

The Fjord Route

Nepal
Nepal is one of the world's most exciting travel destinations! Over the course of 16-18 days we visit Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan, making the trip a small round trip. From the border with India with jungle to hiking with views of several mountain peaks over 8000m in the Himalayas, you will see contrasts in nature and get an insight into what the country has to offer.

Nepal

Interrail
We pack our backpacks and start the trip with the Rauma Railway from Åndalsnes on our journey towards the Mediterranean. On our journey south we will visit both towns and villages, we will visit some sights along the way and we will meet local people in the places we visit. An important part of this trip is that the students themselves are involved in determining the itinerary and the content of the trip at the different stops.
