Sports Disc Golf

Disc golf

We visit many disc golf courses in the area around the school. In addition to the 18-hole course that is partly located on the school grounds, we are within day trip distance of 10 other disc golf courses. Øverås, Sula, Skåla, Tingvoll and Kristiansund to name a few. In addition to these courses, we will visit courses with a slightly longer travel distance such as Krokhol and Ørlandet. Several of the courses we will play on have hosted competitions such as the Disc Golf Pro Tour Europe. Krokhol Disk Golf Course in Oslo has been named the best course in the world in 2025 by Udisc. In the same award, Øverås Diskgolfpark is ranked ninth. This means you will get to play disc golf on at least two of the world's ten best courses during the school year. You can read more about it here!

To build the "team" in the class, we go on trips to have shared experiences and bond with each other. Although we have good facilities in and around the school, we sometimes go on overnight trips to get a change of scenery, or to get opportunities we don't have at school. Throughout the year, you'll help create an environment where it's easy to try new things and where we cheer each other on no matter what level you're at in the different sports we try.

In the village there is an active disc golf community that you can participate in. There is weekly golf every Monday during the summer season and on Sundays throughout the winter season. In other words, the conditions are good for developing a lot as a disc golfer during a school year with us.

Good opportunities for development

Disc golf is a complex sport where technique, tactics, physics, mentality and knowledge are closely linked. During a year at Idrett Disc Golf you will have ample opportunity to develop your game in all areas.

Right outside the school door you will find four DISCacher Pro targets where you can practice putting and approach throughout the year. Pitch no. 9 on the local course, a five-minute walk from the school, can be used as a driving range where you have the opportunity to practice long drives. Here you will find a course map of Torvikbukt Discgolfpark. In winter, indoor putting and driving technique training with a net is also available in the school gymnasium. We will also rent a larger hall on certain occasions. We use video analysis as a tool when working on technique.

Throughout the year, the instructor/teacher will work on game tactics, knowledge of flight/aerodynamics and mental training to best handle game situations and make good choices regarding disc, lines, throwing technique, inner dialogue and focus.

Physical training is part of all sports. If you are going to play two rounds on the same day in a tournament, endurance is important to be able to play equally well throughout the day. Strength, explosiveness and mobility are also physical prerequisites that we will work on throughout the year. This is important to be able to throw as well as possible and get the most out of the techniques we work with and as injury prevention measures.

Sports Joy and Mastery

Did you never get enough activity and sports at school? Get ready for a year of sporting fun, excitement and challenges. Sometimes dogged effort and pouring sweat. Other times, close duels and thrilling excitement. Sometimes victory, sometimes defeat, but always a little cheer, laughter, well-being and happy smiles.

The main sporting focus is on disc golf and versatility, the goal is for you to develop as a person and athlete, and experience the joy of sports, community and mastery. Throughout the year you will also gain some experience as an instructor, organizer and official.

Versatility

The form of activity will vary between play, training, games, competitions/matches and tournaments. You will get to try a wide range of different sports throughout the year. You will have the opportunity to do everything from going on walks in fantastic nature to working on technical details in a gym. In the immediate vicinity of the school we have a sports hall, beach volleyball courts, an 18-hole disc golf course and a football field with natural grass. At the school itself we have good training rooms for strength and conditioning in addition to a good gym where you can develop yourself with different sports.

We spend some time on basic training in - fitness and strength. When we are going to do a lot of physical activity it is important that we have a good base to build on. General and varied physical training will help reduce the likelihood of injuries throughout a year of a lot of activity.
